The SmartOps24x7 Operations Management Database also plays a critical role in ensuring reliable communications between systems.
Unfortunately, the Internet is becoming an unreliable communications mechanism, with messages being dropped due to overloaded routers, electrical interference, and failure of communications links. Thus attempts to get the latest data from one system over the internet and then send it to another system may result in lost data.
For that reason, SmartOps24x7 agents will normally incrementally fetch data from a source system, convert this to actionable information and store this in the operations management database. If data is not available from the source system, the intelligent agent will keep trying periodically, until it is able to fetch the data, which is then stored as information in the database.
One or more other agents will pick up the latest information from the database and attempt to send it to the recipient system. Should this fail, then the agent will periodically try again until the information can be delivered. In this way SmartOps24x7 is able to ensure reliable delivery of information, even if the Internet or other communication media is unreliable.
Because it uses store and forward communications, as does WIPtracker, WIPtracker can be used on a mobile platform which is only able to communicate intermittently with the central SmartOps24x7 system.
